Jakarta (ANTARA) - Dutch Vice Minister for Foreign Economic Relations Michiel Sweers reaffirmed the Netherlands' strong commitment to enhancing bilateral economic cooperation to support Indonesia’s goal of achieving eight percent economic growth.

Speaking at the Dutch Economic Mission Forum held here on Monday, Sweers highlighted horticulture, water management, and the maritime sector are key areas the Netherlands sees as important to helping Indonesia meet its economic targets.

He stated that these three sectors are vital to Indonesia’s ambition to reach eight percent growth over the next four years, as well as to the country's vision of becoming the world’s fifth-largest economy by 2045.

Leading the Dutch Economic Mission to Indonesia, Sweers noted that bilateral trade between the two countries continues to grow each year.

Dutch exports to Indonesia have reached nearly two billion euros, while Indonesian exports to the Netherlands are approaching 3.5 billion euros.

Sweers also expressed the Netherlands' strong interest in new trade and investment opportunities with Indonesia, considering that the Netherlands remains the largest European investor in Indonesia.

He highlighted that Indonesia and the Netherlands have a 300 million euro memorandum of understanding (MoU) covering infrastructure, coastal protection, waste management, energy, and healthcare development.

The MoU was signed in February 2025 between Indonesia’s Ministry of Finance and Dutch Invest International, representing the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Trade and Development Aid.

Sweers also cited the opening of Frisian Flag’s new dairy factory in Cikarang, West Java, as another example of the Netherlands’ strong investment commitment in Indonesia.

The factory, which was opened last year, involves an investment of 257 million euros and can produce 700 million kilograms of milk annually, with a potential capacity reaching up to one billion kilograms.

Therefore, he expressed hope that the economic cooperation between Indonesia and the Netherlands will strengthen and that this Dutch Economic Mission to Indonesia this time will result in productive and mutually beneficial collaborations.
