Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government is offering discounts on transportation services during the June-July 2025 school holidays to encourage more domestic travelers to visit tourist attractions across the country.

Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana noted in a press statement by the ministry here on Wednesday that the number of domestic tourists typically rises sharply during school holidays.

"In addition to Eid, Christmas, and New Year holidays, school holidays are one of the key periods that tourism business actors look forward to for increasing sales," she remarked.

She explained that the government is preparing a domestic consumption-based stimulus package to boost national economic growth in the second quarter of 2025.

She revealed that the stimulus package of Rp24.44 trillion (US$1= about Rp16,292) will be used by the government, starting June 5, 2025, and includes providing discounts on transportation services.

The government has allocated Rp940 billion to provide a 30 percent discount on train tickets for 2.8 million passengers, as well as a six percent discount on economy class flight tickets, and a 50 percent discount on sea transportation service fees during the school holidays.

Additionally, the government has set aside Rp650 billion in funds to provide a 20 percent tariff cut for toll road services for around 110 million users during the June-July 2025 period.

The minister affirmed that the central government is keen to synergize with regional governments to hold regional tourism activities that will attract visitors.

"Transportation discounts and local events are expected to stimulate economic growth in various regions," she remarked.

The Ministry of Tourism encourages tourism industry players to capitalize on the school holiday period by promoting the #DiIndonesiaAja holiday campaign.

The campaign features promotions for school holiday tour packages during the June-July period, discounts on domestic transportation services and entrance tickets to tourist attractions, as well as promotions for tour packages in tourist villages.

The ministry is making collaborative efforts to provide a 10 percent discount on school holiday tour packages from travel agents or tour operators and tourism industry players.

In addition, the ministry supports the implementation of 31 tourism activities in regions included in the Karisma Event Nusantara program in June-July 2025.

"The use of ticket discounts for tourist visits to tourist destinations in the regions during school holidays 2025 is expected to have a positive impact on accelerating the achievement of the target of 1.08 billion domestic tourist visits," the minister stated.
